Chennakesava Temple:The temple is a remarkable work of craftsmanship and the sheer detail of the work is phenomenal. The statues of the princesses and the gods transport one to a bygone era. The giant pillars inside are an example of Hoysala architectural excellence. One of the pillars of the temple actually revolves if pushed. The quiet serenity of the temple is poignant.
Shantala Devi: On the smooth circular platform, stands the sculpture of the beautiful Shantala Devi, queen of King Vishnuvardhana. The delicacy and attention to the tiniest details here are extraordinary. Each feature, bangle, strand of hair is carved with care.
Madanikas (Bracket Figures): The four famous bracket figures on the ornate ceiling have been inspired by Shantala Devi’s beauty. One sculptured beauty communicates with a pet parrot whose tail is peacock-like while another wring water from her long hair. The drops collected on hair-ends are also visible. All the 650 elephants charging on the ornament around the walls outside are different from each other. The 38 Bracket figures on the walls are beautiful, contemplative and amorous women.
Narasimha Pillar: This pillar, which once revolved on its ball bearings, has a small space left on it to be sculpted by anyone who has the skill. However, it is untouched till date.
