Digboi (Assam)
Digboi in Assam is an oil town that can be traced to the early 18th century, when oil was first discovered here. Digboi can proudly boast of two unique features: a 100-year-old extant oilfield and the world’s oldest operating oil refinery.
With a significant number of British professional working for Assam Oil Company until the decade following independence of India, Digboi town had a well developed infrastructure and a number of ‘bungalows’ unique to the town.
It has a world class golf course with 18 holes as part of Digboi Club. It has got guest houses and tourist residential apartments to promote tourism in upper part of Assam.
Today, though the production is very low, Digboi still has the distinction of being the worlds oldest continuously producing oilfield. Digboi Assam oilfield is not another oilfield, but an oil museum with a history to be proud of.
