Bhilai Steel Plant: It is famous for the Bhilai Steel Plant, one of the largest in the world. Nearby mines, connected to the steel plant by specially built rail lines, supply it with iron ore, dolomite, and manganese. Some of the steel products manufactured by Bhilai Steel plant are: railway sleepers, rails, construction materials, and other steel products. Other factories in Bhilai produce chemicals, acids, and gases.
The nearest big railway station is Durg, other railway stations being Bhilainagar, Bhilai Powerhouse, Kumhari and Bhilai-3. Bhilai is a known educational centre for sending large number of students to Indian Institutes of Technology. Two of the town’s school’s viz. BSP Senior Secondary School, Sector – 10 and Delhi Public School have been exceptional in their standards of quality of education and lead the way for schools throughout the state. Formerly a small town, Bhilai grew rapidly in the decades following the construction of the steel plant.
Today its 53,000 strong industrious and innovative workforce leaves no stone unturned in fulfilling the dreams of its founding fathers and the demanding challenges of the new generation, fine tuning every production activity to the subtle nuances of the market economics.
Maitry Baugh: A zoo cum children’s park, maintained by the Bhilai Steel Plant Management. White tigers are the main attraction here. Every year a flower show is organized here. The Baugh has a musical fountain. 2 shows are organized here in the evenings, on alternate days.
Maitribagh: Maitribagh is famous for its garden & is situated under the township of Bhilai. The garden is build by the co-operation of India-Russia Govt. It has a beautiful musical fountain which happens to be the biggest in Asia and it attracts large crowds. It is also famous for its Zoo. Various types of Indian & Foreign animals & birds are kept in this zoo. The zoo also consists lake, toy train and many more.
Hajra Falls: It is 100 km from Bhilai, crossing Dongargarh near Darekasa Railway station in Howrah Mumbai rail route. Situated amongst dense forests, hills and tunnels, this spectacular 150 feet high falls is a visual delight for tourists.
